Plant Sale 12th May 2018

With the Easter weekend and its gardening potential almost upon us, it’s time for the annual reminder about the Hort Soc plant sale – which this year is on May 12th at the Village Hall 2-4pm. For new members, or those who haven’t been before, the Plant Sale is basically a plant bring and buy sale.

Hort Soc members (and other villagers and friends) bring their spare plants along, and then buy what others have given at remarkably good prices. So, everyone saves money on stocking their garden and we share our collective garden growth amongst each other. It’s one of the best village events of the year – and it raises money for the Hort Soc in the process.
One of the things that makes this work is that, around now, people start planting additional seeds, taking additional divisions and so on, and then put them to one side ready for the Plant Sale. So, if (for example), you were thinking of planting ten runner bean seeds for your own plants – plant the whole packet instead and give the rest to the Plant Sale.  Similarly, when dividing those overgrown clumps of perennials, or thinking of throwing out the plants you no longer want – put the surplus to one side for the Hort Soc.
We’ll send more details around nearer the date, but in the meantime, please think about creating something for the sale over the next few weeks. If you know you are trying to grow something specific for us, please let Rob Greig know on Rob.Greig2@btinternet.com as that helps us plan a good range of different plants and seedlings.
Happy growing.
