In 2017 we ventured into the topic of pollinators with a talk on Butterflies. At the\u00a0AGM it was proposed that we\u00a0continue the pollinator theme in 2018 by focussing on bees, so we have designed our\u00a02018\u00a0programme around bees. We\u00a0want\u00a0you to come to the events, but\u00a0also get involved,\u00a0<\/span>doing things\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0support bees and other pollinators.\u00a0While the honey bee is an excellent pollinator, we want to focus on wild bees \u2013 bumble bees and solitary bees. You do know the difference don\u2019t you? No? \u2013 then come along to our events to find out!<\/span>

It\u2019s no secret that many pollinators are facing threats. Insensitive land use by man, and the loss of habitat,\u00a0reduction in plant species diversity and the use of insecticides, fungicides\u00a0and herbicides\u00a0have all been linked to declining bee numbers. This is bad news for us and for them. But you can help –\u00a0and we are asking you to\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The most important thing you can do is grow the right types of plants for bees, using seeds\/plants that have\u00a0not been chemically<\/span>\u00a0treated.\u00a0We have been promoting some free seeds which\u00a0support pollinators. Please take up our offer.\u00a0But\u00a0please\u00a0don\u2019t be restricted by this offer \u2013 when you are buying your normal seeds for 2018,\u00a0select an ADDITIONAL packet of bee friendly seeds and grow them \u2013 and bring them to the plant sale in May.\u00a0Want advice? \u2013 please contact us!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Bumbl\"Bumblebee<\/a>e\u00a0bees will\u00a0start appearing in early spring\u00a0\u2013 the large queens\u00a0are\u00a0looking for a new nesting place. Get your camera out to photograph\u00a0the bees in your garden \u2013 so you can enter into the photo competition\u00a0at the Flower show in September! \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
